Accountability Leads to Improvement
Hello Champion:
Are you the type of person that passes blame onto others when something goes wrong?
OR...
Are you the type of person that is willing to take responsibility when you and your teammates aren’t performing to your full potential?
Typically, your coaches, managers, and teammates will gravitate towards the second type of individual.
The reason for this is because this person has one trait that the other person doesn’t: Accountability.
Accountability is when a person will take responsibility for the actions, choices, and behaviors that he or she will make as an individual.
Being accountable allows individuals to create a clear vision for their future and makes it easier to put in the long hours to accomplish their goals. It requires extreme mental toughness for a person to possess this unique trait.
“It’s the one thing you can control. You are responsible for how people remember you- or don’t. So, don’t take it lightly.” Kobe Bryant.
You have to be willing to hold yourself accountable on a daily basis because once you stop, an unwanted routine will develop.
CHALLENGE #1: Meet with a teammate or colleague once a week to discuss your progress on the goals you set for yourself.
CHALLENGE #2: Write down three “must do” tasks before you go to bed, then check them off upon completion the following day.
The Athlete’s Edge Journal is a great mental performance tool that individuals can utilize to practice the skill of accountability.
Take responsibility for your actions and you will earn the respect that you deserve.
