The Art of Patience

Hello Champion:

Do you feel like you are giving everything that you have and still not hitting your goals?

You are not alone.

Many high school stars struggle to transition into college athletics. A lot of high level individual contributors can’t manage other people. Most entrepreneurs do not see a profit until year three of their business.

The art of patience provides hope and resilience during tough times, although it may not be easy to display. Remember that your time will come.

At the beginning of my career, I wanted to take a rocket ship to the top of the industry. I thought I was ready to run the show. However, I didn't realize that if I got that opportunity then I would have sunk the ship. I simply was not ready. I didn't have the experience or emotional intelligence to lead others. Climbing the organizational chart will help you serve others and be a better leader.

“There's definitely times when I'm tempted to look at the future, like any of us are. I'd be lying if that wasn't the case. But you have to reel back in and stay in the present.” – Nick Foles

Nick Foles might be one of the greatest examples of patience in sports. After being a starter for several years in the NFL, he was relegated to being a backup in Kansas City and Philadelphia. He decided to keep his head down and do his job until an opportunity was available. That opportunity happened to be the run to Super Bowl LII. Ultimately, Carson Wentz’s injury and Foles’ brilliance led to him beating Tom Brady in the big game.

Here are three tips to help you practice patience.

  1. Trust yourself: If you believe in your talents then you will shine when the opportunity comes your way.

  2. Stay sharp: You never know when it will be your turn. It’s important to practice like you will be the star every time you take the field.

  3. Be positive: Cheering on teammates and having a positive attitude will make others gravitate towards you. This will create chances.

Remember, patience is a virtue, and it often does not come easy. However, all good things come to those who wait and put the work in.
